Ek Main Aur Ek Tu (2012) Bollywood Hindi Movie Poster in Kolkata
Kolkata, February 11, 2012 (Washington Bangla Radio/ Penning Creations) People who depict their own life with the instances of love affairs shown in movies and wish to have all that glitter and grin in their amorous jiffies (especially when the actor and actress are swearing on their eternal love, accompanied by the soothing background score) praying to experience a life long romance, ‘Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu’ is the perfect flick for them. Realizing in the month of love and romance, this movie quenches the thirst for all the below 30 age group couples (considered as the age limit for snappy romance to exist) for an ideal romantic comedy after a trenchant and poignant era of movies namely ‘Agneepath’, ‘The Dirty Picture’ and ‘Don 2’. Given the relatively slick job to exhibit the present day romance and connect with both the general and elite mass, knavish Karan Johar has been able to make the viewers envisage and wish themselves to be in the same position, and enjoy the thrills and merriment of being with someone with whom love and fun goes side by side. With a proven track record(except a few flops and disasters like ‘Kaal’) producer Karan Johar made an earnest attempt to give Bollywood romance a new edge with the much coveted face of- Imran Khan, keeping aside the king of romance-Mr. Khan (and he is not a terrorist but a charmer).

Directed by Shakun Batra, ‘Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu’ sets the mood for a kismet yet greatly admired plot which was previously conceived of something similar to ‘What happens in Vegas’. With shades of a romantic comedy, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu tells the story of two best cronies- ‘Rahul’ (Imran Khan) and ‘Raina’ (Kareena Kapoor) who meet on Christmas Eve only to get drunk and blend in the festive mood. A series of fun and gaiety follows them which add to the essence of the Christmas Eve. The movie grabs eyeballs when ‘Rahul’s creamy face and ‘Raina’s white chocolate appearance turn grey, when they realize in the morning that got bonded in a conjugal alliance the previous night.

Shakun Batra assembles the hone combination of glam and sweetness to create a perfect treat to watch. Previously named ‘Short Term Shaadi’, EMAET creates the interest between the viewers with Rahul Kapoor, a young lad and a parents pet(to be precise-the ‘Adarshwadi’ beta) loses his architect job in Vegas and is worried not to deject his parents expectations, meets with Raina Braganza, a prudent and super cool hairstylist and accidently enters into a marriage.  Reminding the audience of the elated and gleeful ‘Geet’, the ‘Jab We Meet’ girl, (whom we all want to meet once, don’t we..!!) Kareena Kapoor plays the urban form of that high energetic bint and does complete justice by adding the right pep (in other words-no over acting). She is a jaunty and unlaxed Catholic filly with a devil-may-care attitude, who drives a scooty, he is hebetudinous guy over prostrated with problems and obligations, and drives a Prius, she is a sheen current wire, he is a dreary bucko, she got dumped in love and he got fired from job. Tired and foiled with their present condition, the duo meets up to live a moment of felicity and amusement in a bar, when fate turns to a whimsical twist and they both enter into a new problem in a state of stupefaction. Narrated by Shakun, EMAET is vivacious and a must watch, especially for young lovers, who wants to pacify their search for some laughter and gags (followed by romance, which we all seek).

The camaraderie between Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan does the wonder. Their solace level with each other make the audiences ponder and think do they experience such repose with their partners. Ms. Congeniality ‘Riana Braganza’ pulls ‘Rahul’s nose, pinches him, irritates him and yet he never gets annoyed. Together with their charming effect on-screen, EMAET impersonates suavely the present day love in relationships.
With a stirring and corking symphony, Amit Trivedi, the music director for ‘Dev D’ and ‘Wake up Sid’, does a dandy job with the easily adapting song-‘Ek Main’, ‘Aunti ji’ and ‘Aahatein’ which is on everyone’s lips. Perfectly edited and with no unnecessary elongation, without any sizzling item number, EMAET keeps the smile on the face of the audience when they walk out of the hall.
Veteran actors like Boman Irani, Ratna Pathak and Ram Kapoor do a groovy job adding to the glory. Boman Irani gives yet another power packed performance in a simple role, (something less violent as compared to his last role. Disclaimer:-he is good at what he does!) proving his adroitness yet again. Ratna Pathak as the obtuse mom makes the viewers attract attention, thanking their stars for not having to face such a female parent.
Out and out, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is one of the best works of Imran and an ideal ornamental role for Kareena Kapoor after her mega budget movies like ‘Ra.One’ and ‘Bodyguard’. That slick and spunky avatar is back again on screen with a harum-scarum attitude, vagarious and yet matured, and an intrinsic smile that does all the magic on Imran and on the audience.

P.S- Let us bask in the aroma of love and comedy, and accept this ideal gift for Valentine’s Day. Its time to for lovers and yet to be lovers to witness a compassionate flick, sustained with powerful script and resplendent performance.
